New Freescale® Freedom Development Platform KL02Z Now Available From Premier Farnell
LONDON, July 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Energy efficient 32-bit MCU provides evolution from 8 & 16-bit versions
Premier Farnell has announced it will stock the new Freescale Semiconductor Freedom development platform KL02Z evaluation and development tool, designed for the rapid prototyping of microcontroller-based applications.
Featuring the new energy efficient Kinetis™ KL02 ARM® Cortex™-M0+ MCU, the KL02Z Freedom Development Platform offers design engineers 32-bit performance at the cost of traditional 8 & 16-bit MCUs, making it the ideal cost-effective replacement for legacy processors and is available through Newark element14 in North America, Farnell element14 in Europe, and element14 in Asia Pacific.
The Freescale Freedom development platform KL02Z will be available for $12.95 and is designed for low-power devices, including a range of portable consumer devices, remote sensing nodes and ingestible healthcare sensing applications, while its flexible design enables a wide variety of design prototypes including those dependent on battery power or energy harvesting.
The FRDM-KL02Z also incorporates OpenSDA, the Freescale open standard embedded serial and debug adapter, which offers users multiple options for serial communications, flash programming and run-control debugging.
David Shen, Group CTO at Premier Farnell said, "This is a really positive product development for us as it represents a real evolution in the options available to those developing prototype microcontroller applications. As an energy efficient 32-bit MCU, it's perfectly poised to take the place of older 8 & 16 bit MCUs in our customers' kits with its low cost and low power performance."
John Dixon, Worldwide Business Development Manager for Freescale's Microcontroller group, added, "It's great to see the KL02Z being rolled out in the hands of a trusted distributor like Premier Farnell. With the industry's smallest and most power efficient 32-bit ARM MCUs, we will be opening up a multitude of new Internet of Things possibilities. This is a product we're especially excited about seeing enter the marketplace with its incredible access for 8-bit users looking to step up their evaluation processes with Cortex-M 32-bit MCUs."
"Newark element14 is a high-service distributor of technology products and solutions for electronic system design, maintenance and repair including an extensive range of development kits, capacitors, resistors, connectors, switches / relays, semi conductors and cables."
