New Eye Lift Plastic Surgery Technique Presented at National Meeting of Oculoplastic Surgeons
Leading Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Andrew Jacono to Lecture as Keynote Speaker at the 45th Annual American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Meeting
NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Recent advancements in eye rejuvenation techniques offer patients new approaches to erasing the telltale signs of aging lower eyelids, including: bags, puffiness, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Eyelid rejuvenation can be accomplished with many techniques including non-surgical and surgical approaches.
On Friday, October 17, during his lecture on "An Algorhythmic Multi-Modality Approach to the Devolumized Lower Eyelid," Dr. Jacono will be presenting new techniques in lower eyelid lifts (also called blepharoplasty) that create more natural results.
"In traditional blepharoplasty, under eye bags created by extra fat and skin are removed, resulting in a loss of volume for a hollowed look," Dr. Jacono explains. "This in turn, contributes to tear troughs, which create dark circles associated with older eyes."
To avoid a hollowed look, Dr. Jacono performs a procedure called an orbital fat transposition, during which the bags under the eye are repositioned into the hollows instead of being removed. The drooping eyelid muscle is then lifted to prevent further droop for years to come. This approach creates youthful, smooth contours while keeping the maximum amount of skin for the most natural result.
"Volume can also be reintroduced into the tear trough area via a hyaluronic acid injectable filler, such as Belotero and autologous fat transfers harvested from the abdomen or thigh," says Dr. Jacono. "It is important to assess each patient's needs individually for optimal outcomes. During my lecture at ASOPRS, I will discuss an algorithm to help inform doctors in their decisions on how to approach volumizing regions of the eye area that traditionally go untreated."
