New England College Honored as Military Friendly School for 5th-Straight Year
'World-class programs' for servicemembers include associate's and bachelor's degrees offered 100% online
TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With its core commitment to educating military personnel and their families, New England College (NEC) once again has been honored as a Military Friendly School, a designation that places it among the top 20% of universities and colleges nationwide in the annual rankings.
It is the fifth-consecutive year that NEC has been named to the Military Friendly Schools® list by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur magazines. In compiling its list, Victory Media reviewed more than 10,000 schools approved to receive funding from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The commended schools are leaders in recruiting and retaining military students, and have "world-class programs and policies," according to Victory Media.
NEC President Michele Perkins said the college is proud to be recognized as a Military Friendly School for its contributions to military families, "who continue to sacrifice so much for our country."
"New England College is dedicated to supporting servicemembers, veterans and their families through its exceptional educational programs, including 100% online degrees that provide flexibility, convenience and 24/7 access," Perkins said in a statement.
NEC provides an array of assistance to active duty personnel and veterans, as well as to their spouses and dependents, such as a special tuition rate of $750 per 4-credit course for its in-demand undergraduate degree programs offered 100% online.
The 4-credit courses mean first-time students can graduate with a bachelor's degree in as few as 28 months.
NEC's 100% online degrees are powered through University Alliance technology, and feature live chat rooms, and professor-led streaming and downloadable video lectures. Programs include:
- Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies
- Associate of Arts in Business Administration
- Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, with an option of four specializations:
- Accounting
- Computer Science
- Management
- Marketing
- Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice
- Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
- Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration
New England College, which was founded in 1946 to serve World War II veterans, also offers a 10% savings on undergraduate tuition for Reservists, Guardsmen and veterans, as well as spouses or dependents of disabled or deceased veterans.
The Military Friendly Schools® list ranks colleges and universities based on more than a dozen categories, including: academic credibility; percentage of military students; veteran graduation rates; employment rates; flexibility for military students; and student tuition assistance. Victory Media also surveyed more than 4,000 student veterans.
Among its other military-related benefits, NEC accepts DANTES and PONSI credits, and allows servicemembers to exit and re-enter online degree programs without penalty during deployments. "Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows New England College's commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students," Victory Media's Vice President Sean Collins said in a statement.
