New Completion Technique Reduces Costs ~ 30% Per Well
WEYBURN, Saskatchewan, February 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Welltec®, the world leader in safe and cost effective, well optimization, is pleased to share this recent success demonstrating pioneering approaches to solving new well completion challenges.
Welltec®, working with a local operator, has developed and successfully applied a new clean-out procedure for unconventional completions which improves the process and quality of the completion. Additionally, about 30% can be saved per well while acquiring more accurate data and securing more sustainable interventions.

The standard procedure included performing a mini frac, recording surface data for 4-5 days, then running coiled tubing (CT) to perform the confirmation / clean-out run prior to e-line perforating and fracturing.
Some of the challenges included not getting the mini-frac results soon enough to use them effectively, transportation of fluid pumps, N2 pumps, the coiled tubing unit, flowback tanks and fluid heaters during in the winter for the CT clean-out.
Welltec® offered a much simpler technique, deployed on e-line, which removed the above equipment while providing more, higher quality data and simultaneously performing the clean-outs.
The solution consists of an e-line conveyed Well Tractor® in combination with a Well Cleaner® Reverse Circulating Bit (RCB), a CCL and a Welltec® Pressure Temperature (WPT) sub. This powerful combination allowed the operator to obtain the actual bottom hole pressure and temperature on depth while performing the clean-out run.
Accurate plug back, total depth can be determined as well as the actual position of each of the numerous frac ports. Using this information, changes can be made to the frac model and schedule in advance for optimized efficiency, leading to a cost reduction of ~ 30% per well.
Welltec® is the pioneer and the world's largest provider of downhole robotic solutions for deployment, milling, clean-out and mechanical solutions.
