New Chevy Silverado outpaces new Toyota Tundra
2014 Silverado offers more towing, fuel-economy than Tundra
MILFORD, Ohio, June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Few things are as romanticized in the American automotive world like the pickup truck. When help is needed, the feeling is that when someone shows up in a pickup, things are about to get done. For around 100 year Chevy pickups have been the choice of those who work for a living and rely on their trucks for a paycheck to provide for their families. So when an automaker like Chevrolet releases a new pickup it is going to draw some attention from the public and from some competitors trying to wriggle their way into the market. In anticipation of this, Mike Castrucci Chevrolet has done some leg work comparing the 2014 Chevy Silverado vs. the 2014 Toyota Tundra.

Both pickup trucks have been extensively refreshed for the new model-year, but the Chevy pickup truck will come out on top for most buyers with its increased capabilities. When Chevrolet designers and engineers were building the new Silverado, they started with the engine. And not just one engine, they are giving consumers the choice of three engines. Each one built to provide a mix of horsepower, torque and fuel-economy. The first crop of the new 2014 Chevy Silverado to arrive at Mike Castrucci Chevrolet is powered by a 5.3-liter, V-8 engine that is rated for 355-horsepower. The closest engine that is offered by the 2014 Toyota Tundra is a 5.7-liter, V-8 that can produce 381-hp. However, a pickup truck is not successful based on horsepower alone. The new Silverado can also tow 1,100 more pounds than the Tundra, when properly equipped and gets significantly better gas mileage. This is first victory for the Chevy truck in the battle of the 2014 Chevy Silverado vs. the 2014 Toyota Tundra.
Later releases of the 2014 Silverado will feature a smaller and super-efficient V-6 engine and an over 6.0-liter V-8 engine that is the most powerful motor Chevrolet or General Motors have ever put in a light duty pickup truck. The new line of engines is set to be class leaders in terms of fuel-economy. This is accomplished by the new Active Fuel Management system that is available on all three engines. The basic function of this system is to shut off a portion of the engine's valves when the situation is appropriate to save the most fuel possible.
