WALLDORF, Germany, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that the SAP® BusinessObjects™ Global Trade Services application has received German certification for the European Union's (EU) computerized Excise Movement and Control System (EMCS). Designed to simplify compliance with excise-tax suspension laws and create significant tax and cash-flow benefits, EMCS enables organizations to electronically file EMCS movements directly with EU authorities.

Electronic communication with the EMCS tracks the movement of excise goods (alcohol, tobacco and energy products) under duty suspension within the EU and enables secure, tax-suspended movements of excisable goods throughout EU member states. The SAP BusinessObjects Global Trade Services application streamlines these movements, increases efficiency and reduces costs through automated, paperless administration. As a result, companies can discontinue cumbersome, inefficient paper-based processes and comply with the EU's mandatory electronic- filing requirements that take full legal effect in January 2011. The application is now officially certified for EMCS in Germany, helping customers comply with EU EMCS requirements by electronically communicating with German authorities. Additional certifications are expected later in the year.
Part of SAP BusinessObjects governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) solutions, the SAP BusinessObjects Global Trade Services application offers one of the market's broadest set of certified business-to-government communications, helping customers ensure reliable, compliant trade activities. Another recently announced certification for the Importer Security Filing (ISF), for example, helps customers comply with requirements of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) ISF "10+2" Program and automatically register their ISF-10 filings directly with the CBP.
