New Cell Site in Waikiki Keeps Residents and Visitors Connected on Verizon Wireless' 3G Network
HONOLULU, May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless announced today the activation of a new cell site in Waikiki which will make calling, downloading applications and surfing the Internet on the provider's 3G network easier and faster for Honolulu residents and visitors. The site expands 3G wireless coverage and voice and data capacity in Waikiki, in the areas of Ala Wai Boulevard to Saratoga Road and from Kalia Road to Hobron Lane.
Verizon Wireless' ongoing network investment in Hawai'i now totals more than $254 million, including $40 million in 2010. Since the company was formed, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $65 billion – $5.7 billion on average every year – to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services.
Verizon Wireless recently launched its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless services in 38 markets and 60 commercial airports across the U.S., and has committed to launch in Honolulu, Hilo, Lahaina, Kahului-Wailuku and 136 additional markets during 2011, covering two thirds of all Americans by the end of the year. 4G LTE offers customers who live, work or travel in these markets significantly greater speed and capabilities than even today's most advanced 3G coverage.
