New Castle Youth Development Center Property in Lawrence County Available for Public Purchase
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --The state Department of General Services today announced the New Castle Youth Development Center Property in Lawrence County is officially available for public purchase through the competitive sealed bid process. Bids are currently being accepted until Oct. 15, 2015 at 3 p.m.
The New Castle Youth Development Center property located at 1745 Frew Mill Road in Shenango Township consists of nearly 150 acres of land and 13 buildings totaling 236,444 square feet.
The facility was opened in 1969 by the former state Department of Public Welfare; now the state Department of Human Services, to provide housing for male and female juvenile offenders. It was operated in that capacity until its closure in Feb. 2013.
The property is located in an industrial park district, and presents a viable opportunity for commercial, industrial or institutional development by the successful bidder.
