New Bridgestone DriveGuard Tire Available At Discount Tire
Innovative Run-Flat Technology Offered by World's Largest Tire & Wheel Retailer
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Discount Tire, the world's largest tire and wheel retailer has made Bridgestone's innovative DriveGuard run-flat tire technology available to customers. The new product offers benefits of run-flat technology without the typical tradeoffs of comfort, traction, handling and price. DriveGuard tires will allow motorists added control over a traditional tire should they have a sudden and dramatic loss in tire pressure.
"Discount Tire is proud to offer the new Bridgestone DriveGuard in its stores to help drivers stay proactive when it comes to road safety," said Mark Maruffo, vice president for Discount Tire. "A flat tire can be a scary and stressful situation. DriveGuard run-flat technology helps minimize the danger of a sudden loss of tire pressure and of changing a flat tire on a busy highway."
DriveGuard run-flat technology enables drivers to continue driving up to 50 miles at a maximum of 50 mph after losing air pressure. The DriveGuard tire is also a great solution for the many vehicles that do not have a spare and is available in a variety of sizes for today's most popular cars including Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen.
Now drivers will get the safety of run-flat tire technology without the typical trade-offs of comfort, traction, handling and price:
- Drive 50 miles at a maximum of 50 mph under run-flat conditions with Cooling Fin Technology. Supportive and tough reinforced sidewalls help ensure mobility for up to 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50 mph, even after complete air loss.
- Comfort of a conventional tire with Nano Pro Tech ™ Sidewall Construction. A thinner sidewall reduces heat buildup during low or no inflation.
- Longer wear and reliable traction for the life of the tire with Bridgestone's durable tread compound. Lightweight construction and a unique all-season tread pattern work together to provide ride comfort, confident wet traction, and responsive steering control.
An unique benefit of the Bridgestone DriveGuard tire includes its lightweight construction. Traditional run-flat tires are heavy. The extra weight of four traditional run-flat tires plus a spare increases fuel consumption for passenger vehicles, while the lighter DriveGuard Tire won't significantly weigh down a vehicle—lower vehicle weight helps improve gas mileage.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are 414 fatalities and 10,275 non-fatal injuries annually in light vehicles in which the cause of the crash was a flat tire or blowout. Should a blowout occur while driving, Discount Tire offers three steps to stay safe:
- Grip the steering wheel firmly.
- Don't slam on the brakes. Let the car slow down gradually by taking your foot off the gas pedal so you don't lose control of the vehicle.
- Find a safe spot to pull over. If you're on a highway, take the next available exit and drive to a safe place out of traffic.
