NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprechen sie fun? New Braunfels does November 7-16 during Wurstfest. It was the "Sausage Festival," then "Wurst Week," and finally "WURSTFEST." The celebration of sausage started 53 years ago and has grown into one of the largest German cultural celebrations in the nation. Opening ceremonies on Friday, November 7, kick off the party with a "first bite" sausage "ribbon-cutting" at 5 p.m. followed by eating, drinking and dancing for 10 days.

Wurstfest in New Braunfels, a 10-day celebration of sausage, started 53 years ago and is one of the largest German cultural celebrations in the nation. The 2014 event includes a big expansion with 30 craft beers and more food vendors and seating. Good food and drink, singing and laughter, in the company of family and friends, is what Wurstfest is all about. The Wurstfest Association encourages everyone to raise their mugs and sing along with the theme song "Ein Prosit der Gemutlichkeit!"

There's a new Steltzenplatz Craft Beer Garden this year featuring 30 craft beers. Of course, there's still German and domestic beer choices and more sausage than one can shake a stick at – on a stick, in a taco, with kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes), or apple sauce or mustard. Plus there are all manner of other smoked meats, tasty German pastry and cultural exhibits – you can even learn to make sausage!

From Alex Meixner's oompah music "on steroids" to 18 Grammy Award-winning Jimmy Sturr and Die Bayriche 7 from Germany, the toe-tapping and dancing doesn't stop. Dance or not, the many great musicians and entertainers playing at Wurstfest make it a good time for all.

In addition to fun at Wurstfest, festival events all over the city and county like "Fiddler on the Wurst," a melodrama where cheering the hero and throwing popcorn at the villain is encouraged; the Wurstfest Skat Tournament, where you learn a traditional German card game; and a regatta, canoe and bike races make a trip to New Braunfels for Wurstfest fun memorable.
