New AP® Student of the Year Award Program from National Geographic Learning Recognizes Students for 'Changing the World'
Exceptional Science Student to be Selected to work with Explorers and Scientists on a Research and Conservation Expedition
BOSTON, Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To inspire students and highlight real-world connections between science and education, National Geographic Learning (NGL), part of Cengage Learning, today announced the new AP® Student of the Year Award recognizing students for making an impact through science. This annual award program is open to Advanced Placement science students in grades 9-12 and based on the question, "What are you doing to change the world?" To enter, students are asked to submit a 500-word response to that question before February 2015.
"As we continue to develop science content to engage advanced placement learners, we want to partner with these students to ensure that they are drawing the connection between their studies and the real-world," said Vincent Grosso, sr. vice president, National Geographic Learning. "Our mission is to inspire learners, but we are excited to have the tables turned and become inspired by their efforts to change the world with science. We look forward to reading and learning from the insightful and motivating responses we will receive for this award."
Essays will be reviewed by a panel including a National Geographic Explorer and two Cengage Learning science authors, who will name one winner. The student whose essay is chosen will join a Conservation in Action Student Expedition trip and will work closely with scientists and researchers on some of the world's top conservation priorities.
