RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental Science, a business unit of the Crop Science division of Bayer, announced that Altus™ insecticide will be available for purchase through authorized agents beginning May 1, 2017. Altus introduces a new insect management solution to greenhouse growers that controls major sucking pests while offering flexibility of applications before, during and after bloom.
Altus insecticide, a novel chemistry for use in production ornamentals, offers the following key benefits to growers:
- No application timing restrictions means growers can apply Altus before, during and after bloom
- New active ingredient in the ornamentals market offers control of major sucking pests, such as aphids, whiteflies, psyllids and other key insect pests
- Compatibility with honey bees, bumble bees and many beneficial arthropods offers application flexibility
- Classified as a Reduced Risk product by the EPA
- Short, four-hour re-entry interval in most states simplifies operations
- Foliar or drench options offer flexibility to match the best control method with the target pest and crop
- Crop flexibility allows for use in greenhouses and nurseries on ornamental plants, vegetable transplants and indoor vegetable production
- Rotational chemistry reduces risk of resistance and works well as part of an integrated pest management program
"Bayer is a life science company focused on cultivating science for a better life, so we understand how important it is to develop solutions that not only control pests, but also offer strong flexibility to growers as well as application before, during and after bloom," said Aaron Palmateer, Ph.D., technical specialist on the Bayer Green Solutions Team.
Flupyradifurone, a new active ingredient in the butenolide class of chemistry, is a systemic and translaminar insecticide for controlling major sucking pests, such as aphids, whiteflies, psyllids and other key insect pests. It was inspired by a molecule derived from nature – the plant Stemona japonica. Altus is classified as a reduced risk product by the EPA, offering flexible application before, during and after bloom and is compatible with honey bees, bumble bees and many beneficial arthropods.
For information on how to obtain Altus, ornamentals growers should contact their authorized Bayer distributor.
