Radio Spots Launch $2.5 million Advertising and Mobilization Campaign
WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO announced today an ad campaign thanking key Democratic members of the House of Representatives for voting to save hundreds of thousands of jobs that were on the chopping block without adding a dime to the deficit. According to a CNN poll released today, 60% of Americans support the legislation.
The ads, entitled "Jobs," applaud passage of an important bill to provide vital federal aid to state and local governments and school districts to help with budget shortfalls and save jobs. Radio ads will run in the districts of Representative Kathy Dahlkemper (PA) and sixteen other representatives.
"America's working families need to know that Kathy Dahlkemper stood up for them by voting for legislation to save hundreds of thousands of jobs," said AFSCME Pres. Gerald W. McEntee. "The American people will remember who stood up to save our struggling economy, and who chose to play politics with our lives and jobs."
AFSCME led the fight for this important investment in states and jobs, generating more than 60,000 phone calls, letters and e-mails to Congress, running television, radio and online ads, and building a broad-based campaign for its passage. These ads launch an aggressive, $2.5 million post-passage mobilization and advertising campaign during the August congressional recess that highlights the differences between members of Congress who saved jobs and those who voted to lay off nearly one million Americans and tried to wreck the economy for political gain.
The text of the ad is below:
IT'S HARD TO GET ANYTHING DONE IN WASHINGTON.
BUT RECENTLY, KATHY DAHLKEMPER STOOD UP AGAINST THE GRIDLOCK AND PROTECTED PENNSYLVANIA JOBS.
THE NATIONAL RECESSION IS ENDANGERING THE JOBS OF THOUSANDS OF TEACHERS, POLICE AND FIREFIGHTERS. WITHOUT HELP FROM WASHINGTON, THERE WOULD BE MORE LAYOFFS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR, TOO.
THANKFULLY, KATHY DAHLKEMPER VOTED TO GET PENNSYLVANIA COMMUNITIES THE MONEY THEY NEED TO AVOID MANY OF THESE LAYOFFS.
THE LEGISLATION DOESN'T ADD A DIME TO THE FEDERAL DEBT.
INSTEAD, KATHY DAHLKEMPER CRACKED DOWN ON AN UNFAIR TAX LOOPHOLE AND MADE IT HARDER FOR CORPORATIONS TO SHIP PENNSYLVANIA JOBS OVERSEAS.
THAT'S COMMON SENSE, PROTECTING OUR JOBS.
SO CALL KATHY DAHLKEMPER AT [TELEPHONE] AND THANK HER FOR STANDING UP FOR PENNSYLVANIA JOBS.
