WASHINGTON, July 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today placed a full-page ad in Politico, calling on the Office of Personnel Management to detail the scope of the massive data breach and provide more assistance to those affected.
AFGE remains frustrated by the lack of information being provided by OPM on the number of current, retired and prospective employees whose information was stolen during two recently announced intrusions into its computer systems. OPM also has not detailed what information was stolen, leaving millions of employees anxiously waiting for answers.
The union is calling on OPM to provide affected individuals with free lifetime credit monitoring, insure individuals for the entirety of any financial loss attributable to the breach, and provide employees with time at work to address the breach and protect their personal information. These are immediate actions that OPM can and must take to deliver needed relief to employees.
AFGE is also advocating for hacking victims in the court system. On June 29, AFGE filed a class action complaint with a demand for jury trial against OPM, Director Katherine Archuleta and Chief Information Officer Donna Seymour in response to the cyberattacks. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. AFGE and two individuals, Robert Crawford and Adam Dale, are represented by a legal team led by Girard Gibbs LLP, a national litigation firm representing plaintiffs in class and collective actions in state and federal courts, and in arbitration matters worldwide. Girard Gibbs LLP has vast experience with cases involving cybersecurity attacks and data breaches.
