Nevada Judge Carl J. Christensen (ret) Files Ethics Complaint Against Sen. Harry Reid

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- 1001 Reasons to Vote Against Harry Reid, an independent committee, today announced a complaint filed against Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) with the Senate's Select Committee on Ethics regarding his "pay for play" relationship with Arcata Associates, a small Nevada based defense contractor.  This relationship (detailed at length here: http://www.harryreidvotes.com/buzz/Harry%20Reid's%20Pay-to-Play%20Politics.pdf) goes beyond typical Congressional attempts to support pet home state industry or pet projects.  The U.S. Military did not want, need or request Arcata services, and the Obama Administration requested that the earmark be removed from a DoD Appropriations bill.  

Sen. Reid and the Nevada Democratic Party received over $100,000 from Arcata executives and members of the Wong family, and Arcata received 3.6 million in earmarked DoD contracts.  The Committee and Judge Christensen believe that this is a violation of the federal prohibition against Members of Congress from asking for anything of value from "anyone seeking official action from, doing business with, or ... conducting activities regulated by the individual's employing entity; or whose interests may be substantially affected by the performance or nonperformance of the individual's duties."  5 U.S.C. Section 7353.

Judge Christensen and the Committee ask that the Senate Ethics Committee, Chaired by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) launch an investigation on Sen. Reid's violation of the Senate Rules of Conduct, as well as the Code of Ethics for Government Service.  Judge Christensen is one of the most respected Jurists in Nevada, having served as a Nevada District Court Judge from 1971 through 1993.  He is now in private practice in Las Vegas.
