NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), an international nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring young people from low-income communities to stay in school and recognize business opportunities, today announced the appointment of Shawn Osborne as its incoming President and Chief Executive Officer.
Osborne previously served as President and CEO of TechAmerica, the premier global information and communication technology industry trade organization for U.S.-based companies. In that role, he led global operations, member development, public policy initiatives, business outreach, and research and reports for 300 multi-national member companies. Osborne has more than two decades of experience running high-growth companies including Ulticom, a global leader in communications software. Under his leadership, Ulticom became a NASDAQ-listed company and the world market share leader in the wireless signaling industry.
"I am truly excited to join such an important organization, and at such a critical time," said Osborne. "NFTE has made a real difference in the lives of more than a half a million young people. Each time we help a student in a low-income community unlock his or her potential, we enrich the world around us. It's a message that resonates strongly with me, because it's my story. Coming from a low-income household, I know how hard it is to focus on school when you're worried about everyday concerns like housing and food. There's no greater charge than helping to ignite the spirit and innovation of our most vulnerable kids."
The NFTE Board of Directors released the following statement: "NFTE's Search Committee was focused on identifying a high energy and entrepreneurial CEO who has grown both businesses and nonprofits, worked across multi-site networks and engaged volunteers as well as corporate partners. Shawn's impressive track record of growth, team-building, and operational excellence, as well as his deep connection to our mission — and most importantly a desire to engage with our most important constituents: NFTE students – made him our ideal and unanimous choice. There is no doubt that Shawn will engineer a seamless transition of leadership, building on the strong foundation at NFTE that Amy Rosen leaves as her legacy."
Outgoing CEO Amy Rosen added, "I am confident Shawn has all the qualifications necessary to take the helm at NFTE. He has a proven track record as an entrepreneurial leader, he has a passion for our mission, and will bring to NFTE a welcomed set of expertise and relationships in the tech world that will be hugely valuable. I commend the search committee for their tireless and productive work in bringing Shawn Osborne to NFTE."
Osborne will take the helm at NFTE effective November 17, 2014 and will work side-by-side with Rosen through the end of the calendar year to facilitate the transition.
