NetSTAR, Inc. Announces New 4th Generation Web-Filtering SDK for the OEM Market
Enterprise-grade 4th generation web-filtering SDK now available to hardware and software vendors, SaaS providers, service providers, and mobile operators; official launch announced at RSA USA 2011
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- NetSTAR, Inc., a global leader in secure web-filtering, today announced the official launch of the NetSTAR inCompass™ Web-Filtering SDK, the first 4th generation Internet content and categorization filter specifically designed for the OEM market. inCompass' 4th generation solution introduces four layers of URL filtering classification and security, including true real-time dynamic filtering on over 60 categories of content with no perceived latency, a technology referred to by NetSTAR as Instant Content Categorization Engine (or iCCE). Competitive solutions rely on large databases of categorized websites, which can often be extremely bloated or outdated, and some dynamic technology that usually focus on a few categories are used as part of a background filtering process (not real-time).
Another key new feature included with inCompass is the ability to provide enhanced regional coverage that is tailored to the unique regional or country characteristics and requirements for web-filtering technology. This capability is important since "one size doesn't fit all" when it comes to web-filtering. For example, the standards of what constitutes adult content in one country can be different than the standards of another country. Traditional web-filtering solutions have never had an answer for this problem, but OEM partners using the inCompass technology will be able to use a single SDK to meet the vast demands of these different markets.
"We are thrilled about today's announcement," said Akira Nakayama, Vice President for NetSTAR, Inc. "inCompass can be quickly and easily deployed in a wide range of OEM use cases and environments, including mobile service providers, UTM or other gateway appliances, endpoint security products, MSSPs, SaaS offerings, parental control and family-oriented solutions, and other applications."
Rob Smith, CTO and Co-Founder of Mobile Active Defense, a smartphone security company, OEM partner of NetSTAR, and an early adopter of the inCompass technology, commented that "inCompass makes it possible for M.A.D. to offer one of our most popular features - content filtering, allowing administrators to manage, control and filter unwanted or wanted content on all their enterprise mobile devices. We evaluated a number of technologies, but inCompass was the only solution that could address all of our requirements, including a focused and fresh database, real-time filtering, and awareness of both web and mobile content."
