netForensics Announces Results of Sixth Annual SANS Log Management Survey in April 8th Webcast
Reporting and Analysis Affirmed as Key Capabilities to Leading Logging Solutions
EDISON, N.J., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- netForensics, Inc., The SANS Institute, the largest source for information security training and certification in the world, in conjunction with netForensics, a leader in the Security Information Management market, today announced that the results of the Sixth Annual SANS Log Management Survey will be delivered in a joint webcast held on Thursday, April 8th at 1:00pm EDT. During the webcast (register here: "SANS Sixth Annual Log Management Survey, Part II: Deriving More Value from More Data"), SANS will release its survey findings, revealing that organizations are challenged with how to derive value from all the log data they've collected.
In a survey of management and IT staff in industries ranging from education to government and organizations ranging from small business to global 200 enterprises, SANS discovers the year's biggest trend is that organizations can obtain meaningful reporting and analysis from the log data they've amassed. "In 2007, only 56% of survey respondents collected logs, compared to 87% in 2009," said Jerry Shenk, Senior SANS Analyst. "But, in today's environment, companies have overcome the challenge of collecting the log data -- now it's about deriving value from that data."
Of additional interest in this year's survey is the correlation between respondents using multiple log management vendors and their resulting satisfaction with the reporting and analysis features of these solutions. While those organizations using a single log management solution were most satisfied with collection and storage capabilities, those organizations using two solutions indicate that the solutions combined created stronger reporting and analysis capabilities.
"It's clear that the use of logs is becoming increasingly critical to an organization's security infrastructure," said Merryl Zdatny, Sr. Director of Marketing, netForensics. "The ability to effectively extract specific data elements that point to security threats and to quickly neutralize those attacks is key to any security response."
Register for the live April 8th webcast to hear the complete results of the SANS survey.
