SAN FRANCISCO, March 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2018 Game Developers Conference (GDC) kicked off on March 19 at the Moscone Convention Center in the heart of San Francisco. GDC is the largest annual gathering of game industry professionals in the world. Every year, thousands of industry insiders visit from around the globe to attend roundtables, lectures, tutorials and more. As well as that, GDC also hosts the Game Developers Choice Awards, with categories including Game of the Year, Best Design and Best Visual Art. These coveted awards let the industry celebrate those who have shone brightest in the past year and serve to inspire others to greatness.
On March 21, NetEase Games is hosting a visual arts session, presented by Abel Zhang. Not only is this a first for the company at GDC, it's also a first for any Chinese developer.
Galactic Frontline – A real-time sci-fi strategy adventure
Galactic Frontline is a new real-time sci-fi strategy game developed and published by NetEase Games. Featuring realistic 3D graphics and cutting-edge visual effects, the game takes players to the heart of a galaxy on the brink of war. Advanced lighting and textures, coupled with innovative animation techniques and stirring music, make the game a realistic, cinematic experience. Thanks to global matchmaking, players can battle against the world's best players in their bid for galactic domination. Galactic Frontline is on show at this year's GDC, so gamers will be able to get a sneak peek at the game's amazing graphics, explosive action and deep, strategic gameplay.
A Galaxy at War
The game also features a rich, compelling story centred on the conflict between three races, each with their own motivations, attributes and culture.
The Zoltarians, an ancient, warlike race, were once forced from their home system by a parasitic invasion. They survived, adapted and later established a large empire under a military dictator, the Grand Marshal. Honor and strength are the twin pillars that hold up their civilization.
The Terrans have left a dying solar system in search of a new home among the stars. Advanced AI and nuclear fusion have allowed them to explore the vast expanses of the galaxy. Their long search may now be over, but their appearance has caused great alarm for the Zoltarians and the Ensari.
The Ensari, a devout people, have only six stellar calendars (around 500 Earth years) of recorded history, and yet are the most technologically advanced race in the galaxy. Their society is based on the teachings of shadowy beings, the Envara. The rapid development they've enjoyed is due, in part, to their cultivation and mastery of a mysterious energy source known only to themselves: Sarvaa Crystals.
Command Your Way
As the game's presentation at GDC shows, whether you prefer battling against other captains or exploring the galaxy in story mode, there's something for every gamer to enjoy in Galactic Frontline. Its breath-taking visuals, tactical complexity and adrenaline-pumping action are bringing real-time sci-fi strategy back to the forefront of mobile gaming.
GDC Special Presentation
Abel Zhang, the lead VFX artist on Galactic Frontline will be presenting a visual arts session at GDC on March 21. Abel will be going into detail about his use of flow-maps in both AAA and mobile development, as well as sharing how he achieved the stunning visual effects of Galactic Frontline. It's a presentation not to be missed!
