Netclearance Systems, Inc. Unveils World's First Light-Harvesting BLE Beacon
The revolutionary m1BeaconLite eliminates the need for batteries and works with any indoor light source.
SAN DIEGO, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Netclearance Systems, Inc., (NCS) the leading provider of cloud-based in-venue mobile proximity, marketing, engagement and insight solutions, today unveiled the world's first light-harvesting BLE beacon. The m1BeaconLite is designed to enable scalable deployments of BLE beacons that eliminate the need for batteries and work with any indoor light source.
State-of-the-art Light-harvesting and Energy Storage – m1BeaconLite
The patent-pending m1BeaconLite becomes the industry's premier proximity beacon solution capable of running without batteries. This revolutionary solution features the latest in energy-harvesting and storage technology that converts ambient light into a power source capable of handling a typical BLE application including the Apple's iBeacon and other proprietary formats with the NCS small form factor at an affordable price. The design is capable of utilizing common indoor light sources such as fluorescent, incandescent and LED.
Unlike existing BLE beacons, the solution doesn't require battery power as it utilizes a small photovoltaic cell to convert ambient lighting into a stable power source. The solution includes a cloud-based server that can collect proximity, movements and dwelling patterns over time. In addition, the transformational solution provides powerful analytics under a single web-based platform.
"Energy harvesting delivers a scalable and environmental-friendly approach to indoor beacon deployments while reducing the total cost of beacon ownership," said Jack Donner, Chief Technology Officer. "Most indoor venues such as airports, stadiums, retail stores, hotels, shopping centers have an abundance of high intensity ambient light. The tremendous operational and energy-harvesting efficiency of the m1BeaconLite, combined with the NCS cloud-based management and remote monitoring capabilities, enables our customers to realize the benefits of beacons without having to manage battery-life or wired installations."
