Nestle Waters North America Named Au Bon Pain's 2010 Supplier of the Year
Au Bon Pain honors Nestle Waters for response during Massachusetts-area boil alert
STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Nestle Waters North America was honored last week with the Au Bon Pain Supplier of the Year award for efforts to deliver safe drinking water to Au Bon Pain restaurants impacted by the Massachusetts boil alert last May. The boil-water order affected nearly two million people in eastern Massachusetts and resulted from a break in a major water pipe that delivers water to Boston and nearby communities.
The Au Bon Pain Supplier of the Year award is determined based on a number of criteria, including financial stability, delivery performance, product performance, industry wide reputation and responsiveness in solving problems. Past winners include Distant Lands Coffee Roasters, Trimark United East and the Heinz Company.
"We are honored to be receiving this award from Au Bon Pain, and we're grateful we had the ability to provide water to our partner restaurants during the boil alert," said Brandon Fontenot, New England Foodservice Customer Manager for Nestle Waters North America. "We know that access to safe drinking water is vital to the businesses and restaurants we supply, and we're committed to keeping our partners up and running, particularly when normal water supply is temporarily limited or unavailable."
In addition to supplying partner restaurants with bottled water during the boil alert, Nestle Waters North America also worked closely with Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) during the crisis to distribute bottled water to the area's most vulnerable populations, including hospitals, nursing homes and schools for distribution within communities.
Production in Nestle Waters facilities across the Northeast was increased through the duration of the boil-water order, with employees working to meet the increased demand for bottled water.
"We're grateful for Nestle Waters North America's efforts during the Massachusetts boil alert," said Wade Winters, Vice President of Purchasing for Au Bon Pain. "Other area restaurants weren't able to sell coffee during the crisis, but with the help of Nestle Waters, Au Bon Pain continued operating on all cylinders, offering customers the morning coffee they very much needed."
