SAN FRANCISCO, May 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Nervos (www.nervos.org), a layered blockchain network built to support the decentralized economy, today announced the launch of its testnet named Rylai. Following 15 months of development and community contributions, Rylai is now live and open to developers, miners, and other blockchain enthusiasts.
The Rylai testnet is the first implementation of the Nervos Common Knowledge Base (CKB), the layer 1 protocol of the Nervos Network. As the core foundation of Nervos, CKB is a public permissionless blockchain system that acts as a "common knowledge" layer and is designed to be maximally secure and censorship-resistant to serve as a decentralized custodian of value and crypto assets.
The Rylai testnet will be rolled out in phases, with today's release focused on consensus, peer-to-peer networking, CKB-VM, and a preliminary implementation of NervosDAO. The first phase also includes a basic smart contract programming model where developers can build and run CKB scripts.
"The entirety of the design of the CKB has been finalized, and the design details have been honed and refined. After 30 iterations of Rylai, we're proud to announce our first testnet release," said Nervos Chief Architect Jan Xie. "We welcome everyone to try mining and sending transactions on the CKB as we continue iterating through the launch of the mainnet. With the feedback we receive, we'll be able to improve the programming model to make the CKB more developer-friendly and implement a new PoW mining algorithm."
With the Nervos CKB in active development, the launch of the testnet will allow Nervos to tap the blockchain and developer communities to improve its code and take it to a production-ready state. The Nervos team anticipates significant changes to CKB's existing functionality and modules prior to the mainnet launch.
Xie added, "This testnet represents a significant accomplishment for everyone working on Nervos Network as well as our supporters around the world. It is a key step forward on the path toward Nervos Network's ultimate goal of enabling a truly decentralized economy."
Rylai testnet users can run nodes and mine CKB tokens while learning about and experimenting with the Nervos CKB, but all data will be reset every two weeks leading up to the launch of the mainnet. Tokens mined during the testnet phase will carry no value at this stage.
