41 Stores In 27 Cities, Close To 62 Percent of UHNW Population
NEW YORK, July 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Wealth-X, the ultra high net worth (UHNW) intelligence provider, has mapped out the distribution of UHNW individuals in the United States against the locations of luxury retailer Neiman Marcus stores, providing insight into where America's ultra wealthy are based and opportunities for the luxury retail business.
The Dallas, Texas-headquartered group has stores in 19 states including California, Florida and New York, accounting for more than 75 percent of the US UHNW population. There are four Neiman Marcus stores in Dallas, the most in one city and home to 2,020 UHNW individuals. On a state level, Texas has a total of 5,785 UHNW individuals in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Texas and a total of seven stores between them.
California is the wealthiest state in the US, with nearly 10,000 UHNW individuals living in and around San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. Neiman Marcus has seven stores in and near these cities, including its biggest (251,000 square feet) on Stockton Street in San Francisco.
The state of New York is second wealthiest, with 7,580 UHNW individuals and three stores in the Neiman Marcus Group: an eponymous store in Westchester and two Bergdorf-Goodman stores in New York City.
Wealth-X has identified 2,830 UHNW individuals across six key cities in Florida. Neiman Marcus has a store in each city and two in Miami.
Wealth-X President David S. Friedman, said: "The emerging strategy for most retailers trying to capture the growing affluent market will be to use digital to drive retail traffic. For this segment, the physical retail experience will be critical for capturing the growth in the affluent market. Against this backdrop, Wealth-X provides a snapshot of the comparison between Neiman Marcus' retail portfolio and the pockets of ultra wealthy in the United States as an indicator of their positioning and alignment with wealth trends in the United States."
