NEF Launches Adopt-A-School National Initiative
-- Businesses Can Save Training Costs and Help Their Community Schools Get Free STEM Education
WASHINGTON, Feb. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National Education Foundation (NEF), the national non-profit leader in bridging the academic and job skills divides, today launches an innovative ADOPT-A-SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM, in partnership with the State University of New York (SUNY). This national initiative is a win-win-win program for businesses, schools and students across the nation.
This public-private partnership initiative provides businesses an opportunity to save significant dollars in employee training, while assisting their community schools get world-class STEM+ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, English, Social Studies, SAT/ACT, Digital Literacy, IT, Business and Management) academies at no cost. Thus, businesses get better trained employees and future employees.
The program has been lauded by Congress and the US Department of Education as an innovative approach to bridging the 21st century academic and job skills gap.
NEF's (www.cyberlearning.org) overriding objective is to set up world-class K-12 CyberLearning Academies in the nation's schools, especially the disadvantaged. These academies provide 21st century skills for the students in the STEM+ subjects.
NEF Chairman, Dr. Appu Kuttan states, "America is ranked 25th out of 35 countries in math and science. To compete in the global economy, our students and employees need better STEM+ skills. Our initiative is aimed at preparing our students and employees better for STEM-related jobs and college."
NEF's vision is to set up STEM+ CyberLearning Academies in most financially disadvantaged schools in the U.S. by 2020.
The initiative provides top-quality training in IT, business and management to businesses with a 50% grant, and utilizes the discounted fee paid by businesses to set up a world-class STEM+ Academy for students and a free professional academy for teachers and parents.
The grant offers businesses the choice of over 3,000 world-class professional development courses and live-instant mentoring in 100 IT, Project Management and Desktop industry certifications in Internet Security, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, Project Management etc.
This national initiative is truly a win-win-win partnership. Businesses save 50% of training costs, and receive enormous CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) credits, a plaque to be displayed in the school and great PR. Schools get world-class STEM+ Academies at no cost, and the students receive world-class individualized STEM+ education, capable of advancing a student in a subject like math in just 20-30 learning hours.
