NEF CyberLearning Offers STEM Grants for Schools in all 50 States
-$100 Million Grant to assist One Million Students
WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- All state education departments are placing high emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education in schools. Recent surveys show that 85% of parents want STEM education for their kids, and that a STEM-educated college graduate earns $2 million more in his/her lifetime than one with just a high school diploma.
Since many public schools lack funds for STEM, at the request of several state education departments and the U.S. Department of Education, the National Education Foundation (NEF), the national non-profit leader in STEM education is offering STEM grants, with no out-of-pocket cost to any public school district or charter school with 35% or more students eligible for Free/Reduced meals. Apply at www.cyberlearning.org/stemgrant.
NEF's CyberLearning STEM+ academies, administered by the State University of New York (SUNY), offers top-quality personalized courses in STEM, English, Social Studies, SAT/ACT, IT, Business Desktop and Soft Skills. These courses are mapped to the Common Core standards as well as state standards in all 50 states.
In addition to the courses, the grant provides the schools with funds for teacher stipends, student motivational rewards, teacher training and a Total System Solution. NEF's CyberLearning Total System Solution enables a student to advance a grade level in 20-30 learning hours in a subject such as math or reading, as documented by the State University of New York.
NEF Chairman and STEM education expert Dr. Appu Kuttan states, "America is ranked 25th out of 35 countries in math and science. To compete in the global economy, our students need better STEM+ skills. Our initiative is aimed at preparing our students, teachers and parents better for college and STEM-related jobs."
The grant initiative provides a world-class STEM+ academy for the students, at no cost to the schools, a Parent Academy in IT and Business, and a Professional Development Academy for Teachers.
President Bill Clinton has commended NEF for "your ongoing commitment for creating a better and stronger America." This initiative is a win-win-win partnership— with our schools and students as the biggest winners.
