Nederland Independent School District Awarded D-Link® IP Surveillance Technology Grant
Rural District Secures Grant After Exhausting Alternative Funding Resources
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., July 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- D-Link, a leading provider of high-end networking solutions, today announced Nederland Independent School District (ISD) was awarded the D-Link Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) IP Surveillance Technology Grant consisting of a complete D-Link IP-based surveillance system, including IP cameras, network switches and network video recorder storage system. The Grant was announced by D-Link at the TCEA 2011 annual conference to support state-wide initiatives to ensure the physical safety and security of Texas students, teachers, staff, and physical property.

Nederland has had a history with break-ins, thefts, vandalism and discipline issues that could potentially have been avoided if a security and monitoring system were in place. Because the district budget did not cover implementing a physical security system, District Technology Director Cindy Laird spent two years pursuing several alternative funding options, such as the issuance of a local school bond proposal, applying for Homeland Security sponsored grants; and partnering with its local police department to raise and match needed funds. However, none of these options were successful. When Laird discovered the D-Link TCEA Grant, she immediately applied.
"Nederland ISD strives to provide its students and faculty with technology advantages that will enrich students' learning experiences while enhancing safety," said Laird. "Due to budget constraints, we have not been able to put a proper security system in place, and we've desperately needed it. We are thrilled to have been chosen as this Grant recipient and we look forward to getting the D-Link system up and running before the start of the new school year."
The D-Link TCEA IP Surveillance Technology Grant was offered exclusively to education facilities throughout Texas that demonstrated a true need in terms of budget, limited or ineffective physical security systems, and specific usage and benefit requirements as outlined in the online Grant application form. Nederland will receive an end-to-end IP Surveillance solution for four indoor/outdoor locations including:
- (4) DCS-6111 fixed dome IP cameras
- (1) DES-1008PA 8-Port 10/100 Switch with 4 PoE Ports
- (1) DNS-726-4 SecureCenter™ 2-Bay Network Video Recorder (NVR), Pro Edition
Laird and her IT team will install the Grant package soon after completion of the district's planned Wide Area Network infrastructure upgrade this summer. Laird anticipates seeing a reduction in theft and vandalism as a result of the installation.
"As technology budgets continue to tighten, schools must rely heavily on outside funding to implement critical solutions to improve teaching and learning, as well as promote safety on campus," said Vance Kozik, director of product marketing, IP Surveillance, D-Link. "With this Grant, D-Link is able to provide an IP surveillance solution to a school district desperately in need, and demonstrate that high value solutions for the K-12 market don't have to carry a high cost of entry."
