PHOENIX, Dec. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds of legislators from 49 states and the District of Columbia gathered in Phoenix, AZ this week for the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) annual States & Nation Policy Summit. Over the course of three days, legislators shared their ideas, experience and expertise for growing the economy while maintaining the principles of free markets, limited government and individual liberty.
At the Summit, Indiana State Rep. Dave Frizzell was named ALEC's 2012 National Chairman. Frizzell has been an ALEC member for over a decade, having served for eight years as chairman of the Health and Human Services Task Force before becoming ALEC first vice chairman in 2011.
"This is a tremendous honor," said Rep. Frizzell. "I will work diligently to support ALEC's commitment to developing free-market solutions to jumpstarting the economy, restoring fiscal order and improving government services. I hope to continue the outstanding work of ALEC's current national chairman, Rep. Noble Ellington. 2011 was one of ALEC's most productive years in recent memory, and I can't thank him enough for his leadership."
ALEC recognized Ellington for his service with the National Chairman's Award. Ellington is a long-time member of ALEC and has served on the board of directors for nearly a decade. A commodities merchant, he has served in the Louisiana state legislature since 1988.
"I am humbled and grateful for this award," said Ellington. "Like ALEC, I believe that a vibrant private sector is good for the economy and job creation. I'm thankful to ALEC for giving me the opportunity to learn best practices from other state legislators about how to limit state government and expand individual liberty."
Keynote speakers at ALEC's summit included Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, Former Attorney General Edwin Meese III, Dr. Tony Bennett (Superintendent of Public Instruction in Indiana), David Walker (Founder and CEO of Comeback America Initiative) and Premier Brad Wall of Saskatchewan, Canada.
ALEC is a non-profit, nonpartisan association of over 2,000 state legislators that works to promote principles of free markets, limited government and federalism throughout the states.
