BARCELONA, Spain, October 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
- Integration of Citrix HDX™ and NComputing Numo™ SoC Technology Will Deliver New Virtual Client Reference Design
- Revolutionizes price/performance, power consumption and form factor paradigm
NComputing today announced a strategic collaboration with Citrix that will advance virtual client technology innovation as a result of a new Citrix HDX Ready System-on-Chip (SoC) reference design. Developed with Citrix Systems, the new HDX Ready SoC reference design, powered by NComputing Numo SoC technology, will have an immediate impact on the desktop virtualization market through the creation of a new eco-system of high performance, low energy virtual clients and form factors - at radically lower price points.
The HDX Ready SoC initiative, launched today by Citrix at Citrix Synergy™ in Barcelona, marks a pivotal step in dramatically lowering the cost of acquisition of virtual computing solutions. The initiative will extend access to cloud hosted virtual desktops and applications by creating a new eco-system of high performance, low power, low-cost devices including thin and zero-clients, tablets, displays and set-top boxes. As a charter member of the HDX Ready SoC initiative, NComputing will be creating multi-generational HDX Ready SoC enabled solutions for the OEM market to innovate in new HDX capable devices and form factors. NComputing plans to bring an NComputing branded HDX Ready thin client powered by Numo SoC technology to market in 1H 2012.
Said NComputing CEO Raj Dhingra, "The HDX Ready System-on-Chip initiative represents a sea-change in VDI. NComputing will be able to accelerate the Citrix vision of HDX/Receiver everywhere through high performance, low cost and ultra-low energy reference designs powered by our Numo SoC. For Citrix customers, it will mean a new range of end point devices at unmatched price performance. For the NComputing OEM eco-system, which already includes global leaders such as Fujitsu and LG, it will provide the potential for entirely new product categories and market opportunities."
NComputing has a rich history of innovation in desktop virtualization and is one of the top three client device manufacturers worldwide with #1 market share in APAC and LATAM according to IDC[1]. With three million seats worldwide, the company is unmatched in bringing high-performance virtual desktop solutions to market that deliver PC-like experience at the lowest cost per seat and is a global leader in SoC technology for virtual desktops.
Said Sumit Dhawan, group vice president and general manager, Receiver and Gateways group at Citrix, "By enabling innovation in cloud-capable end point devices, the Citrix HDX Ready SoC initiative will transform the end user experience of cloud-based virtual desktops, applications and data. NComputing has a recognized expertise in thin client technology and a vision to change the game with transformative price points; giving customers choice in end point devices without sacrificing performance."
Desktop virtualization is a fast growth market with Gartner projecting hosted virtual desktops to reach 74 million users by 2014. However the enterprise has been slow to adopt this emerging technology due to barriers around price/performance and complexity of deployment.
These barriers will be removed by combining NComputing leadership in high performance, low power, and low cost thin-clients with Citrix leadership in delivering the best user experience in virtual desktop architecture, applications and data through HDX technology. As a result, this will open the way for unprecedented expansion of desktop virtualization deployments and acceleration of PC replacement in the enterprise.
