America I AM: The African American Imprint, created by Tavis Smiley and sponsored by Walmart, tells the story of the arrival of Africans in America to present-day struggles and successes. The exhibition presents a collection of pivotal moments over 500 years of African-American legacy which shaped the culture and society in which we live today. It includes artifacts, documents, multimedia galleries, photos, music, and more.
America I AM received the THEA award for Best Exhibition, and the NEA endorsed its educational materials as an official Black History month curriculum in 2010. It is the only exhibition to have four of the six historic documents that changed America: the Declaration of Independence, Emancipation Proclamation, and 13th & 14th Amendments.
