NCDOT Acquires Land for Camden Road Expansion, Leaving Property Owners with Questions
NC Eminent Domain Law Firm Hosts Informational Meeting on April 4th
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., March 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The NC Department of Transportation's meetings on the high profile Camden Road Expansion may not be the best resource for property owners worried about getting a fair shake for their homes and businesses.
Owners may not always receive fair value because they may not understand how the process really works -- and that's the benefit of an informational session on April 4th at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux.
The Camden Road project could affect dozens of property owners who may lose a portion or all of their land. The project is expected to be complete by 2015 and will include the widening of the road from two to four lanes with a median and the rebuilding of a bridge.
Many key questions will be addressed during the free informational session by the NC Eminent Domain Law Firm on Thursday, April 4, 7pm at The Holiday Inn Bordeaux. They include:
* How will the value of my property be calculated?
* Do I have a say in how much my property is worth?
* Do I have to accept the NCDOT's offer on my property?
* Do I have a say on how much of my property will be taken?
* Should I get my own appraisal?
Property owners in Greensboro and Durham concerned about similar projects forcing them to sell recently said:
* "There are so many things you don't know about something like this..."
* "My biggest concern is that they're not going to make an offer that will enable us to make the transition."
* "I just don't want to be put out in the cold."
* "I know they're going to go by tax value and tax value on property is not what the property is actually worth."
Stan Abrams of the NC Eminent Domain Law Firm has worked on numerous eminent domain cases involving millions of dollars. Abrams says, "Regardless of the size and scope of the project, the state has an obligation to pay homeowners the fair value for their homes, businesses and land, but unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. There are a lot of things property owners just don't know when it comes to such important negotiations."
