NCAE President Speaks on House Budget
RALEIGH, N.C., June 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NCAE President Sheri Strickland releases the following statement on remarks made today by House Speaker Thom Tillis:
"The political bullying that Speaker Tillis is engaging in will not deter us. Parents, teachers, and North Carolinians need to know that Tillis' plan leads to thousands of classroom layoffs, increased class size, and will take North Carolina to near the bottom in per pupil funding nationally.
I spent 30 years as a special education teacher. I know that better schools lead to better jobs and that Speaker Tillis' education cuts will hurt North Carolina's economic future.
Whether it comes from Democrats or Republicans, our job is to protect the classroom from deep cuts that hurt our kids' future."
NCAE is the state's largest education association representing nearly 60,000 active, retired and student members in North Carolina.
