NCAA®, WNBA Star Nancy Lieberman and WorldVentures Foundation Unveil DreamCourt Leading up to NCAA Final Four® Tournament
PLANO, Texas, April 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In alignment with the 2014 NCAA Final Four Tournament, the WorldVentures Foundation, Nancy Lieberman Foundation and NCAA partnered today for the opening of Arlington's NCAA DreamCourt. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington – East Branch, unveiled a state-of-the-art basketball court funded by the WorldVentures Foundation, Nancy Lieberman Foundation, NCAA Legacy Project and Sport Court International.
"We are excited to give back to the city that is hosting our Final Four Tournament this year," said Victor Hill, NCAA Associate Director, Championships, Community Programs & Youth Clinics. "Sports are a great way to gather people around a common purpose. Today, ours is clear – to leave behind a positive mark for the youth in this community well after the NCAA and Tournament have gone."
Built as one of two Legacy Projects of the 2014 NCAA Final Four, the unique outdoor basketball court is the city's first. Kids will be able to play on a 35' x 60' DreamCourt that was constructed using the Sport Court SportGame high performance safety surface in bright blue and orange colors. It also includes a walkway from the parking lot and a bleacher area.
"College basketball was the launching pad for my professional career, so I'm excited to partner with the NCAA on this DreamCourt," said Lieberman, Hall of Famer and WNBA star. "I hope that the kids in East Arlington will develop outstanding skills to be leaders on the court and in life."
The Nancy Lieberman Foundation hosts basketball camps and clinics for underprivileged children. The Foundation partners with the WorldVentures Foundation to build DreamCourts in underserved communities around the country. The goal of the DreamCourt program is to build high-quality basketball courts in disadvantaged areas to provide children with a safe area to play, participate in free basketball clinics, interact socially, and learn important lessons about teamwork and good sportsmanship. Since 2010, Lieberman and the WorldVentures Foundation have joined forces to build 11 high-quality basketball courts so far for children in cities including Denver, Austin, Nashville and Minneapolis.
The WorldVentures Foundation is a national partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
"The WorldVentures Foundation is thrilled to be part of, and contribute to, such a worthy project," said Gwyneth Lloyd, executive director, WorldVentures Foundation. "I'm confident that the impact of the NCAA DreamCourt will touch the lives of the children in this area for many years to come."
