N.C. Electric Cooperatives Standing By, Report No Outages As Hermine Approaches

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- North Carolina's electric cooperatives are monitoring conditions and are prepared to respond if power outages occur as Tropical Storm Hermine crosses the eastern part of the state. The electric cooperatives are not reporting any outages as of Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

However, with wind and heavy rain expected in several counties overnight, the cooperatives encourage members to charge battery-powered electronic devices, including cell phones, now. North Carolina's electric cooperative crews are poised to begin restoration quickly if outages do occur.

If you encounter a fallen, sparking or sagging power line, do not touch it. Always assume that powerlines are energized and dangerous. Report damaged power lines or poles to your local electric cooperative or call 911 immediately. Stay away from flooded areas. If you see cooperative crews working on the side of the road, slow down and leave plenty of space.
