NBCUniversal & Comcast Appoint Maggie McLean Suniewick To Senior Vice President, Strategic Integration
NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- NBCUniversal and Comcast today announced the appointment of Comcast executive Maggie McLean Suniewick to Senior Vice President, Strategic Integration. Suniewick will report to both Steve Burke, Chief Executive Officer, NBCUniversal and Neil Smit, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Cable and Executive Vice President of Comcast Corporation. Suniewick will be responsible for spearheading NBCUniversal's key Symphony initiatives across the entire company's properties and with Comcast Corporation. Most recently, Suniewick served as Vice President, Programming for Comcast Cable where she managed programming across all Comcast platforms and executed the 2012 "Xfinity TV Watchathon" which offered thousands of shows to Comcast customers for free and broke all prior records on the platforms, logging double digit percentage viewership increases over the course of the week-long campaign.
In her new role, Suniewick will be charged with identifying creative, technological and strategic opportunities between Comcast, the nation's largest video, high-speed Internet and phone provider to residential customers and businesses under the Xfinity brand, and NBCUniversal's vast portfolio which includes two broadcast networks – Spanish and English language – 17 cable networks and more than 50 digital properties, a premier motion picture company, television production operations, a leading television stations group and world-renowned theme parks. Symphony, the strategic company-wide marketing initiative promotes upcoming NBCUniversal programming, movies and events, including the Olympics, and Comcast's products and services, across the portfolio to drive awareness and help connect with consumers. In addition, Symphony projects include major strategic initiatives like TV Everywhere.
Most recently, NBC took advantage of the Symphony program to promote its fall series across the portfolio and Comcast platforms, including "The Voice" and "The Blacklist," which are currently in the #1 and #2 spots among primetime viewership. Universal Pictures' "Despicable Me 2" also was supported by the Symphony program across NBCUniversal and Comcast content and platforms, and has become the most profitable movie the studio has made in the Company's 100 year history, earning $800 million at the worldwide box office. Additionally, the upcoming Sochi Olympics will be significantly scaled across NBCUniversal's entire portfolio, as well as Comcast and Xfinity platforms in an effort to present viewers with the best viewing experience across all screens.
Previously, as Vice President, Programming for Comcast Cable (2010-2013), Suniewick oversaw editorial and programming across all video platforms and consumer products, including Xfinity On Demand, XfinityTV.com and the Xfinity TV Player app. Additionally, Suniewick oversaw the company's TV Everywhere implementations which allow Comcast customers to access content on services such as NBC Sport's Live Extra, HBOGo and Watch ESPN. From 2006-2010 Suniewick served as Vice President, Strategy and Development for Comcast Interactive Media where she focused on the online distribution of content both negotiating deals with major content providers and getting content launched across Xfinity products.
Prior to joining Comcast in 2006, Suniewick spent seven years with Oxygen Media where, as one of the network's first employees she helped to launch the network in February of 2000. During her tenure there she served many roles including being the editor and producer of the network's personal finance website and a manager of finance and planning for the company.
Suniewick is a graduate of Wesleyan University and received her MBA from Columbia University.
