NBCH's Community Coalitions Health Institute Awards Community Health Partnerships Seed Grants
Program supports collaborative efforts of coalitions for programs that improve the health of communities
WASHINGTON, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Business Coalition on Health through the Community Coalitions Health Institute (CCHI), a 501(c)(3) affiliate organization, announced the recipients of the Community Health Partnerships (CHP) Population Health Seed Grant program. The initiative was created to support collaboration on population health in local communities by providing financial support for business-led coalitions to work with the public health community and other key stakeholders. Awardee projects address a variety of issues including smoking cessation, nutrition, physical activity, asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and depression.
The goal of the Community Health Partnerships is to strengthen existing relationships and catalyze new collaboration between NBCH member coalitions throughout the U.S. and state/local public health agencies to advance population health strategies at the community level. The funds are intended to promote the implementation of promising and evidence-based initiatives in local communities.
"With this program, we hope to strengthen the bridge between the employer and public health communities through collaboration on promising health initiatives that are based on proven, evidence-based guidelines to improve health," said Andrew Webber, president and CEO, NBCH. "A healthy community is vital for employers as this is where they draw their workforce. Healthy and productive employees are critical to the success of an organization."
Merck, sanofi-aventis and the United Health Foundation are providing funding for this initiative and NBCH member coalitions responded to a request for proposal process. Seven coalitions were selected to participate:
- Employers Coalition on Health in Rockford, IL for childhood obesity prevention
