NBC Sports Group Selects Deluxe MediaRecall for Massive 400,000-hour Sports Film and Video Digital Migration Project
NORTHVALE, N.J. and STAMFORD, Conn., April 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Deluxe MediaRecall announced today it has been engaged by NBC Sports Group – in what may very well be the largest digital migration project of its kind – to digitize, catalog and store the group's entire film and video library, representing up to 400,000 hours of the most important sports-media content. Deluxe MediaRecall is a division of Deluxe Media Services, the industry's leading provider of media and entertainment content services.
From content on obsolete videotape formats such as NBC's TV broadcast coverage of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games and clips from the first Super Bowl in 1967, to the 2012 HD broadcast of Super Bowl XLVI, which is the most-watched program in U.S. television history, Deluxe will encode to a digital master and apply metadata for all of NBC Sports Group's media. As the digital migration is completed, the new master files will be imported into the group's advanced media asset management system to enable search, discovery and file-based workflow delivery on a global basis.
"While the historical preservation of our media and reduced physical storage costs are welcome byproducts of such an enormous undertaking, the most compelling reason for NBC Sports Group to complete this migration is to reduce in-production turnaround times of critical deliverables to nearly zero," said Darryl Jefferson, VP Digital Workflow, NBC Sports Group. "With our new facility in Stamford (CT), we engineered for true, file-based production, whether at our studios or in remote locations. NBCUniversal's partnership with Deluxe is ideal to make that happen in less time and with greater ease than we could do on our own."
Dan Glasser, General Manager of Deluxe MediaRecall, added, "We are honored to be working alongside Darryl and his team to preserve and make readily available NBC Sports Group's valuable content. We strive to be partners with our clients and are committed to their success."
Through its Deluxe MediaRecall division, with locations in Burbank, CA and Northvale, NJ, Deluxe offers cost-effective, high-speed digital migration workflows to help organizations of any type and size digitize, catalog (tag), transcribe and monetize their valuable media assets, whether to achieve cost savings or drive new revenue streams. Balancing web and automation technologies with a 2,000-person strong staff of highly trained, cloud-based distributed workers, Deluxe MediaRecall recognizes the value of hyper-accurate metadata to accomplish complementary goals, such as library assessments, search and discovery optimization, as well as push and pull workflow tools for packaging and delivery.
