NBA Players challenge each other to raise donations…of goats
- Jamal Crawford and Isaiah Thomas to compete for the title of G.O.A.T.
- Fundraising challenge runs through end of December
SEATTLE, Dec. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NBA stars and World Vision Celebrity Ambassadors Jamal Crawford and Isaiah Thomas will share big dreams this Christmas by competing to see who will raise the most donations of goats.
The Celtics All-Star and Clippers three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year are longtime friends and will be competing for the title of G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all Time) that will go to the player who raises the most donations of goats for families living in poverty.
Their competition began on November 29, which is Giving Tuesday, and runs through the end of December. During that time each player will invite his fans and social media followers to support him in the competition by donating a goat to World Vision.
The competition will occur online at worldvision.org/thegoat.
Goats are a gift that keeps on giving, feeding hungry families in the developing world often for 10 years or more. These animals are often called "miracles with fur" because they provide life-changing, nutritious milk and manure to grow more food. They can also provide income from extra milk and food to sell.
For several years, Crawford has partnered with World Vision to host a Christmas toy drive for children in Los Angeles, and back-to-school backpack distributions in his native Seattle.
"I love that the gift of a goat can an impact on an entire community," said Thomas. "A healthy goat can have two kids a year which are often shared with neighbors making a better life for the whole village."
Thomas has also partnered with World Vision's U.S. Programs team to distribute backpacks and books for youth in several communities across the country.
In the coming year, both Crawford and Thomas are expanding their work with World Vision to benefit its international programs, which span nearly 100 countries. Earlier this year they were announced as two of the initial members of the World Vision Celebrity Ambassador Network.
