Navy League honors NEPTUNE with Commodore Barry Book Award

NEW YORK, March 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2015 Commodore John Barry Book Award will be presented to Craig L. Symonds noted author of NEPTUNE: The Allied Invasion of Europe and the D-Day Landings.  The Award will take place on Wednesday evening, 15 April 2015 at historic Fraunces Tavern^®, 54 Pearl Street, New York City.

Craig L. Symonds is Professor of History Emeritus at the United States Naval Academy. He is the author of many books on American naval history, and this superb volume is a complete account of the vital Naval operations in support of D-Day. Symonds, as one of America's greatest military historians, brings to life the Allied assault from the sea on the Normandy coast. 

The annual Commodore John Barry Book Award was established by the New York Council, Navy League of the United States, to recognize significant contributions to American Maritime Literature.  The inspiration for this Award is the life and service of Commodore John Barry (1745-1803) a Continental Navy hero of the Revolutionary War, later chosen by President George Washington to build and lead the new United States Navy, successor to the Continental Navy. 

The event (business attire) on 15 April will begin with a 6pm Reception in the Flag Gallery, Fraunces Tavern Museum, sponsored by the Naval Historical Foundation and by the National Maritime Historical Society, followed by Dinner at 7pm in the Bissell Room in Fraunces Tavern Restaurant. Copies of the book will be available.
