VIENNA, Va., April 11, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Navy Federal Credit Union, the world's largest credit union, is honoring its youngest members and their families with a Youth Week of promotions from April 9 to 16. During this one-week campaign, Navy Federal will promote its youth-related products and offer special incentives for young members. The credit union will also participate in the nationally recognized Purple Up! campaign, aimed at recognizing the sacrifices made by active duty military families and their children.
Navy Federal Youth Week will feature product incentives and educational seminars at schools to encourage early savings practices among adolescents. Members under 18 will receive a monetary incentive for opening youth savings or checking accounts, or prepaid debit cards—all aimed at fostering smart spending habits.
"Among our more than 6 million members, many are under the age of 18," said Annie Sebastian, vice president of membership at Navy Federal. "It's important to develop children's financial knowledge—just like math, reading or writing—because it's something they'll use every day as an adult. We're excited to dedicate a full week to nurturing these essential skills."
April is the Month of the Military Child, and Navy Federal is displaying its appreciation by encouraging its workforce of over 13,000 employees to wear purple for Purple Up! day on April 15. The color purple is chosen as the campaign's signature color because it symbolizes the combination of all branches of the military: Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue.
"Children with an active duty parent are in a unique environment and serve in their own way," said Sebastian. "We always admire our service members and it's equally important to recognize the efforts made by their families."
Navy Federal employees showed enormous appreciation and support toward these children last year by wearing purple throughout all corporate campuses. This year, they'll again celebrate Purple Up! day with many of the credit union's 281 worldwide branches, which will also host kid-friendly financial activities in support of the campaign.
