NAVTEQ Launches Intermediate Maps of Nigeria and Kenya
NAVTEQ expands African map coverage with the +200 000 kilometres and +23 000 Points of Interest
NAIROBI, Kenya, ABUJA, Nigeria, and LONDON, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions, today announces map coverage expansion with Intermediate Maps for Nigeria and Kenya. Covering 140 000 kilometres of road in Nigeria, 60 000 kilometres in Kenya, and a combined 23 000 Points of Interest (POIs), these maps will enable enhanced navigation functionality. Intermediate Maps are a separate class of map data provided by NAVTEQ to support customers who are interested in introducing LBS and navigation applications in emerging markets. The Intermediate Map offering is an important tool for customers who need a faster time-to-market in key regions of the world and desire the same exceptional service and support they have come to expect from NAVTEQ. Based on third party source data deemed by NAVTEQ to be the highest quality available, Intermediate Maps do not adhere to the same specifications or required verification as the company's flagship product, the NAVTEQ® map.
Covered in the Nigerian map are 14 cities found in the country's 36 states, from their main highways down to side roads. The map also includes an unprecedented 17 000 POIs, making it a value add for any navigation device.
Containing the highest quality 3rd party data available, the Kenya map is of exceptional quality and detail, covering nine cities and seven of the country's major national parks and game parks including the relevant tourist POIs, like Nairobi National Park and Masai Mara National Reserve. Approximately 6 000 POIs are also included in the Kenya map.
"The launch of the Kenya and Nigeria Intermediate Map sets is an important milestone towards the achievement of NAVTEQ's strategy of comprehensive coverage of the East and West African regions. The growing tourism market in Kenya and the surrounding countries and the importance of Nigeria as an economic hub in West Africa put both countries high on NAVTEQ's priorities list. We look forward to further rollouts of the regions," says Frank Pauli, vice president EMEA Map and Content Products, NAVTEQ.
