MINNEAPOLIS, June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Navitaire, a leading provider of reservations and ancillary sales solutions to low-cost and hybrid airlines, has been awarded level 3 New Distribution Capability (NDC) certification from International Air Transport Association (IATA). This is the highest level certification possible for IT providers.
By achieving the top-tier designation, Navitaire and its advanced reservation, merchandizing and digital solutions have been recognized for their ability and compliance with the NDC XML-based set of standards put forth by IATA as the wave of the future.
Navitaire has been granted NDC Capable level 3 certification for its NDC-based solution, the Navitaire NDC Gateway, under the NDC Certification Program. The status recognizes that Navitaire supports deployments using Offer and Order management messages whose schemas are compliant with the standard NDC message schema, version 1.1.3.
The Navitaire NDC Gateway serves as a communication and translation layer between the NDC XML schemas and the New Skies® reservations system core. This enables clients to build on New Skies' proven, award winning direct sales and ancillary capabilities to help clients take their advanced merchandizing capabilities to an even higher level.
New Skies is a comprehensive airline passenger sales and management solution providing integrated Internet sales, mobile booking and check-in, ancillary revenue-generation, day of departure and real-time reporting capabilities. The modular system offers broad industry connectivity to global travel agency systems, inter-airline and alliance codeshare services and customer self-service integration. New Skies has been an e-commerce sales and retailing platform from its inception, and powers many of the industry's most successful ancillary sales leaders as measured by percentage of total revenue.
New Distribution Capability (NDC) is a travel industry-supported program launched by IATA for the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data transmission standard that will enable retailing opportunities through indirect channels, such as the GDS and travel agents.
The Navitaire NDC Gateway enables New Skies clients to readily extend and promote their ancillaries via third parties, such as agencies and aggregators, using the new XML industry standard. With years of experience using XML, NDC is a natural extension of Navitaire's capabilities. The IATA XML standard will allow clients to connect with more business partners that embrace the NDC approach.
Today, Navitaire NDC pilot programs are underway with two clients, one of which is Brazil-based GOL, which became the first Brazil-based airline to have a live NDC sales transaction.
"Our market leading clients can now engage with more business partners using the new standard and deliver, in turn, even greater value to their own clients," said David P. Evans, Navitaire CEO. "We're excited to see the industry move forward, and Navitaire intends to remain at the forefront of this evolving standard."
Yanik Hoyles, IATA Director, NDC program added: "Navitaire has been an NDC proponent from the early days, and this certification reinforces their ongoing commitment. We're pleased to see Navitaire join parent company Amadeus as a level 3 NDC Capable IT provider, allowing the clients of both companies to enjoy the benefits of using the NDC standards."
