SEATTLE, Jan. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- As the country's longest government shutdown drags on with no end in sight, hundreds of thousands of federal employees required to work are going unpaid. Although federal employees have received back pay following resolution of previous shutdowns, these workers need to fully understand their rights regarding the shutdown.
HKM Employment Attorneys will be a holding a telephonic Federal Employee Roundtable: Know Your Rights on Thursday, January 24 at 12 PM PST to discuss the rights of federal employees regarding backpay, lawsuits, and unemployment benefits. This information is provided to all federal employees free of charge.
"Missing even one paycheck can do incredible damage to a family's finances so we're doing everything in our power to alleviate that suffering," said Deb Sundblad, Managing Partner of HKM's Federal Employment practice, who is leading the pro bono effort. "The biggest challenge in getting folks the relief they need is making sure people are aware of their rights, so we encourage every single federal employee who's wondering how they're going to make ends meet while being forced to work without pay to call in and learn about their options."
Just as the firm did when tackling the Trump administration's family separation policy, HKM has agreed to provide information to employees free of charge.
Interested parties can sign up for the roundtable by going to https://hkm.com/shutdown and signing up to get instructions on how to call-in and listen to the discussion about federal employees' rights. Further, on HKM's sign-up page, federal employees will have an opportunity in advance to ask any questions to HKM about their rights. The roundtable will also be open to members of the press, and HKM will connect any employee who wishes to share their story of how the shutdown has affected their family with members of their local media.
