Nationally Acclaimed Trial Lawyer Scott Thompson Joins Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch LLP
NEW YORK, May 10, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch LLP is pleased to announce that former federal prosecutor R. Scott Thompson joined the firm's litigation group on May 1. For more than three decades, Mr. Thompson has prosecuted and defended countless civil and criminal cases on behalf of public and private entities, business executives, and high-net-worth individuals in matters covering a broad range of issues. He has tried dozens of cases to juries.
In his civil practice, Mr. Thompson's experience covers matters as diverse as antitrust, securities, structured products, and corporate governance. He also frequently handles cases involving contracts and business torts of all varieties.
In his criminal white-collar practice, Mr. Thompson is an expert on numerous regulatory issues, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), insider trading, and other securities law issues. Drawing on his years of experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney under then U.S. Attorney Michael Chertoff, he also guides clients through sensitive internal corporate investigations.
Mr. Thompson will be based in the firm's New York City office, where he will join the firm's deep bench of experienced trial lawyers.
"I have known Scott since we were both newly minted lawyers at Davis Polk. He is a distinguished trial lawyer with extensive experience in trials of all sorts, and is well known and universally respected in federal and state courts across the country," said David Wollmuth, the firm's Managing Partner. "Aside from his substantive expertise, Scott's professionalism and work ethic is second to none. He is also a fierce competitor, which fits perfectly with our firm's culture," said Wollmuth, who added, "I faced the difficult challenge of trying a case against Scott. He is a gentleman, but tough, aggressive, and insightful. Most importantly, he has good judgment and knows the proper tone to strike with judge and jury."
Mr. Thompson joins Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch from Lowenstein Sandler, where he has been a partner for more than 20 years. He earned his B.A. degree from Princeton University and his law degree with honors from Rutgers Law School. Mr. Thompson is admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey.
