"WASC's reaffirmation of National University's accreditation for 10 years recognizes the long-held institutional commitment to academic rigor and quality of every member of the National University System," said Chancellor Lee. "Our mission, making lifelong learning opportunities accessible, challenging, and relevant to a diverse student population, is as critical today as it was when National University was founded 40 years ago."
"The reaffirmation of National University's accreditation by WASC for 10 years is a testament to Chancellor Lee's relentless focus on fostering an atmosphere where student success is the number one priority of every member of our University community," said Ms. Jeanne Connelly, Chair of the National University Board of Trustees. "There is no more fitting tribute to Dr. Lee's 22 years of leadership of the National University System."
National was recognized by WASC for the work of the University's faculty and staff over the years in creating sustainable support systems for student learning and success. National University also received several commendations which included, among others, recognition of its comprehensive faculty-led assessment processes, strong support systems for students from admission through graduation, and its training program for adjunct faculty.
National University has been accredited since 1977 by the WASC Senior Commission, the accrediting body for all universities and colleges in California, Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Basin. The 10-year reaffirmation of National's accreditation is the longest extension in the University's history and the longest such time frame WASC is permitted to bestow upon an institution. As a result, National University's next Capacity and Preparatory Review will be scheduled in fall 2019, followed by an Educational Effectiveness Review in spring 2021.
In addition to being accredited by WASC, National University also is:
- Approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
- Approved by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
- Accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE)
- A member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE)
- A member of the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CCAS)
- National University's English Language Programs are accredited by the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP)
