CALABASAS, Calif., March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- National Technical Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: NTSC) (NTS), a leading provider of engineering services, announced today that it has begun certification testing services supporting the ZigBee Building Automation™ standard for commercial buildings, the latest standard in ZigBee's standards catalog. NTS recently completed the first successful test of a lighting device supporting the standard which resulted in the ZigBee Alliance awarding the Daintree Networks' Lighting Controller official ZigBee Certified status.
ZigBee Building Automation is the latest wireless standard based on the 2.4GHz ZigBee standard. As the only BACnet- approved, wireless mesh network standard for commercial buildings, ZigBee Building Automation provides a standard for interoperable products for secure and reliable monitoring and control of commercial buildings. Daintree Network's Wireless Area Controller (WAC) has become the first lighting controller product to be ZigBee Certified for ZigBee Building Automation. As the leader in ZigBee testing and validation, NTS assisted in the development of the test specification, as well as performing testing on Daintree's product to verify that it meets the requirements of the standard as defined by the ZigBee Alliance.
"NTS congratulates Daintree Networks on attaining ZigBee Certified status on its Wireless Area Controller product, and we look forward to assisting Daintree on future certifications," said Osman Sakr, NTS Chief Technology Officer. "The release of a new ZigBee standard and the first ZigBee Certified product from this standard is another major milestone for all involved – for the ZigBee Alliance, for Daintree, and for NTS. NTS will continue to work closely with the ZigBee Alliance to support the testing and certification needs of the ZigBee membership."
"Daintree Networks is proud to be the first ZigBee Certified lighting solution using ZigBee Building Automation, an important milestone in bringing wireless lighting controls to the mass market of commercial buildings," said Niall Mai, VP of Engineering, Daintree Networks. "We have worked with NTS through the ZigBee Alliance for many years, and we appreciate their support in successfully bringing our certified product to market."
"The ZigBee Building Automation standard is the choice for intelligent wireless control of HVAC, lighting and other devices across commercial buildings," said Ryan Maley, Vice President of Strategy, ZigBee Alliance. "NTS has been a consistent leader in testing services for ZigBee Alliance members and a valued contributor to the ZigBee Certified program. We look forward to continuing work with NTS on new application standards that bring even more ZigBee Certified products to market."
