WASHINGTON, June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Securing America's Future Energy (SAFE) has announced a high-profile roster of business executives, former military leaders, and government officials will participate in the National Summit on Energy Security, to be held in Washington DC on July 12 and 13. The summit will feature Oil ShockWave, a fast-paced wargame simulation in which former government officials, military leaders, and cabinet members grapple with spiraling oil prices and geopolitical turmoil delivered in a life-like environment. The Oil ShockWave will be conducted with participants who have previously held the highest positions in government, including Admiral Dennis C. Blair, US Navy (Ret.), former Director of National Intelligence and Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Command; Ari Fleischer, former White House Press Secretary; Stephen Hadley, former National Security Advisor to President George W. Bush; John Hannah, former National Security Advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney; John Hofmeister, former President and CEO of Shell Oil Co.; Ambassador Susan Schwab, former U.S. Trade Representative; and General Charles F. Wald, USAF (Ret.), former Deputy Commander, U.S. European Command.
Also included in the summit is a CEO roundtable discussion on energy security featuring Frederick W. Smith, Chairman, President, and CEO of FedEx Corporation, and Andrew C. Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Enterprise Holdings. Moderated breakout discussions, an opening dinner, and a Capitol Hill reception will round out the summit, and additional participants for both Oil ShockWave and the CEO roundtable will continue to be added prior to the event.
"Energy security is at the heart of the major issues facing our nation. Middle East unrest has sent oil and gas prices to near record levels – threatening the economic recovery and underscoring our vulnerability to this area that is rich in oil and ripe with volatility," said Robbie Diamond, President and CEO of SAFE. "The National Summit on Energy Security will bring together national leaders who can discuss true impact our oil dependence has on our national security and our economy, and take part in formulating solutions to these critical issues."
