National Semiconductor Partners With U.S. Department of Energy, Joins Save Energy Now LEADER
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:NSM) announced its partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy as a participant in the Save Energy Now LEADER program. In this partnership, National pledges to reduce its energy intensity by 25 percent in 10 years.
"National has a strong commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our products and operations," said Chris Lee, corporate environment, health and safety senior manager for National Semiconductor. "We intend to keep our pledge and look forward to working with the Department of Energy to accomplish this goal in boosting industrial energy efficiency to significantly reduce future carbon emissions."
Since 2005, National has reduced its absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide by nearly 40 percent. In the past year, its manufacturing facilities have undertaken projects to include optimization of boilers, replacement of chillers and scrubbers with high-efficiency units, and installation of energy-efficient lighting. Through its partnership with the Department of Energy as a member of the Save Energy Now LEADER program, National will continue to identify and evaluate methods by which energy intensity may be reduced companywide.
Save Energy Now LEADER companies are setting ambitious energy-reduction targets that will create demand for energy-efficient manufacturing technology today and into the future. "Supporting the development of the latest industrial technologies plays an important role in helping U.S. industry to lead the world in energy efficiency and productivity," said Secretary Chu. "Working together with American manufacturing and IT industries, we will be able to create new jobs, reduce industrial energy use and limit damaging greenhouse gas emissions."
