National Safety Council presents USG Corporation with the 2016 Robert W. Campbell Award
Chicago-based company engages every employee to create a culture of safety excellence
ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the National Safety Council presented the 2016 Robert W. Campbell Award to USG Corporation at the NSC Congress & Expo, the world's largest annual gathering of safety and health professionals. Campbell Award winners are an elite group of organizations that have successfully integrated environmental, health and safety (EHS) management with business operations as a cornerstone of corporate excellence.
"USG has manufactured world-class products, but today we are recognizing them for their world-class safety track record," said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. "Every employee at every level is dedicated to keeping one another safe, and that is the hallmark of our Campbell Award winners."
Campbell Award applicants are evaluated based on their ability to integrate their EHS management system into business practices. USG has used EHS principles to create a culture of total employee engagement, from C-suite leaders to line workers. Employees' commitment yielded impressive results. USG's lost-time injury rate is 17 times better than industry average - .06 versus the manufacturing average of 1.0.
"It is an incredible honor to be recognized as the 2016 Robert W. Campbell Award recipient, and we owe it to our almost 9,000 employees who value safety, every minute, every task and every day," said Jim Metcalf, Chairman, President, and CEO of USG Corporation. "At USG, it is our people who have embedded a safety-first culture into everything we do and will continue to improve our environmental, health, safety and sustainability initiatives as we continue to move into this next era of Advanced Manufacturing."
The Campbell Award is underwritten by the Exxon Mobil Corporation. It is named for Robert W. Campbell, a safety pioneer and the first president of the National Safety Council. Visit CampbellAward.org for more information.
