National Safety Council and BROWZ Partner to Make Workplaces Safer
New campaign aims to make safety a priority in workplaces of all sizes and industries
ITASCA, Ill., Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Safety Council and BROWZ announced today a partnership to advocate for safer workplaces across the country. Nearly 11 workers still die on the job each day, and 5 million are injured annually. It is also estimated that 50,000 fatal workplace illnesses and 400,000 nonfatal workplace illnesses occur each year. NSC and BROWZ are teaming up on an advocacy campaign based on the Journey to Safety Excellence® principles to help make workplaces of any size or industry safer.
"BROWZ is committed to furthering the education of workplace health and safety. As a leader in supply chain qualification and management, we see the positive results of both large and small businesses when they choose to employ best practices in safety," said Elaine Beitler, chief executive officer at BROWZ. "NSC has developed great tools to begin that evaluation. We are pleased to have been selected as a partner to share our expertise, and advocate for further advancements of this safety initiative."
Based on 100 years of experience, the Journey to Safety Excellence is a strategy of continuous improvement which calls for committed leaders and engaged employees; sound safety processes and procedures; actively removing risk in the workplace and continually measuring and improving performance.
"As the Council's first president said more than 100 years ago, safety is the practice of the right way to do things; it should not be a cost of doing business," said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president & CEO of the National Safety Council. "By partnering with BROWZ on this important initiative, the core principles of the Journey to Safety Excellence will be extended to include suppliers and contractors."
The Journey to Safety Excellence campaign will launch in September at the 2014 NSC Congress & Expo in San Diego.
