National Safety Council accepting nominations for 2016 Teen Driving Safety Leadership Awards

ITASCA, Ill., May 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Safety Council is accepting nominations for the 2016 Teen Driving Safety Leadership Awards, made possible by a grant from the General Motors Foundation. The award recognizes individuals and organizations whose contributions have measurably influenced teen driver safety.

"Car crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for American teens," said Deborah A.P. Hersman, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. "Fortunately, these crashes continue to decline because of outstanding leadership and efforts to affect change. We look forward to recognizing those contributions again this year, because there are so many people helping to protect our most vulnerable drivers."

Award winners will have shepherded programs or initiatives that have:

Changed behaviors around teen driving
Led efforts to engage and educate teens, parents and/or communities
Advocated for policies based on the proven principles of Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL)

"Through recognizing these efforts, we can continue the necessary discussion about how to reduce teen car crashes and save lives."

Nominations will be accepted through July 1, 2016. Individuals and organizations may nominate themselves and/or others. Winners will receive national recognition at the 2016 NSC Congress & Expo in Anaheim, California in October.
